A quartet that dissolves the boundaries between sound, form, and emotion

Founded in 2025, Wonder marimo 4 is a fresh quartet from the Berlin jazz scene, uniting four distinct musical personalities into a unique sonic world. Already in autumn 2024, Taiko Saito, Mona Matbou Riahi, and Heinrich Köbberling played together for the first time at the Ethno Jazz Beskidy Festival. In 2025, Keisuke Matsuno joined, and the quartet made its debut under the name Wonder Marimo 4 at City Signal Berlin in Kühlspot.

The quartet brings together two acoustic sound explorers – Heinrich on drums and Taiko on vibraphone – with two masters of electronic sound – Mona on clarinet and electronics and Keisuke on guitar and electronics. Their music emerges from the fusion of acoustic and electronic sounds, combining Monas powerful, Iranian-influenced clarinet voice with Taikos flowing, precise, Japan-inspired vibraphone. Together, they create a sound world full of transparency, tension, poetic energy, and unpredictable dynamics.

Like the Marimo, the unique aquatic plant that grows only in Lake Akan on the island of Hokkaido (Japan), the music of Wonder marimo 4 is unmistakable, organic, and alive. The quartet connects rhythm, sound, and poetry in a way that treats improvisation not as a method, but as an attitude – every performance becomes a unique experience.
